FAQs

Where does the parade start and what is the parade route?

The parade starts at Queen Street and Britannia Road in Streetsville and goes south on Queen Street ending at Old Station Road

What happens if it is raining or snowing?

If it rains or if there is a light snowfall just prior to or during the parade it will continue.

If there is a possibility of severe weather it will depend on the severity of the conditions as to the impact.
Severe weather involves conditions which can pose risks to the participants or to the public involved in the event. Most common examples include: Severe Thunderstorms, Lightning, High Winds, Extreme Cold, Snow and
Freezing Rain.

The following are alerts issued by Environment Canada:
Special Weather Statements are the least urgent type of alert and are issued to let people know that conditions are unusual and could cause concern.

Watches alert you about weather conditions that are favourable for a storm or severe weather, which could cause safety concerns.

WARNING as certainty increases about the path and strength of a storm system, a watch may be upgraded to a Warning, which is an urgent message that severe weather is either occurring or will occur. Warnings are usually issued six to 24 hours in advance, although some severe weather (such as thunderstorms and tornadoes) can occur rapidly, with less than a half hour's notice.

In the event of a Special Weather Statement the parade will continue as planned with conditions being monitored.

In the event of a Watch or a WARNING being issued prior to the start of the parade the situation will be assessed, with a determination being made as to whether the parade will either continue as planned, delayed in starting or cancelled.

If weather conditions exist, such as a snowfall, rain or freezing rain, which are not covered in the above alerts, the parade may be delayed until the roads are sanded, or if the condition is continual, the parade may be cancelled.

The decision as to whether the parade will either continue as planned, delayed in starting or cancelled will be made in consultation with the parade Manager, logistics Manager, Peel Regional Police Officer in Charge and the representative of the City of Mississauga If there is a sustained wind speed of 30km per hour or higher any carried banners and inflatable floats will be withdrawn from the parade.
